Hello doctor, My mother is 50 yrs old. she is a diabetic patient since 10 yrs. She does periodic checkups and her health is fine. She doesnt have high BP or cholestrol. But the ECG she took last week showed slight variation.Should we go for a detailed checkup ?Should we take any precautions?? Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Old age and diabetes are risk factors for cardiac diseases, and there can be a number of variations in ECG of a person. As you have not mentioned it clearly I would say that if variation is with st segment or t wave in ECG, then some base line tests of cardiology like 2d echo and tread mill tests are indicated to rule out cardiac ischemia. A lipid profile test should also be done. If possible upload photo of her ECG for detailed comments.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rishu Saxena
