Should Antibiotics Be Taken For Swollen Lymph Nodes And Severe Sore Throat?

Hi my son currently has hand foot and mouth, I started with a cold a few days ago which turned into a fever, with swollen lymph nodes in my neck on one side and a really sore throat. I now have blisters at one side where my tonsils use to be. Do I need antibiotics?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Enlarged nodes, fever and sore throat are suggestive of infection. In my opinion, a short course of antibiotic is necessary.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Loveleen Sharma, General & Family Physician
