Should Crystalline Penicillin Be Changed Or Anything Else Needs To Be Added?
30yr old male suferring from high grade fever chills and fatigue with h/o high coloured urine, of 5 days duration. o/e febrile, toxic, icterus +. tenderness rt. hypochondrial and epigastric regions. no other clinical findigs present. lab inv. showed raised sr. biluribun and liver enzymes. widal pos.o&h antigen i;160 , leptomat.positive for Ictero Hemorrhagica 1;160 dils. pt. treated with crystalline pencillin 20lac units6th hrly. continues to have fever and c/o extreme fatgiue. should i change the antibiotic or add anything more,

Hi,
I think the drug she is taking is not a first line drug to treat such infections. It is proper to use either quinolones or amoxicilline-clavulinic acid combinations, get a urine culture and antibiotic sensitivity test done.
