Should Fluid In The Knee Be Removed After A Fall Post Surgery?
I fell about 3 weeks ago and hurt my knee that had a prior knee cap surgery (scrapping knee cap from a prior fall) about 3 years ago. It swelled up immediately after the fall and now is still swollen and very soft, may have fluid in knee, is there a danger in not getting the fluid removed?
There is no specific danger attached to not having the fluid removed.
The presence of the fluid in a small space may contribute to the pain that you are experiencing, this is the main issue.
It will dissipate on its own though this can take a long period of time in some cases.
The use of anti inflammatory pain medications, even if there is minimal discomfort, would help because the fluid is formed as part of the body's inflammatory response. EG naproxen, ibuprofen, cataflam, voltaren
A compression bandage , is also sometimes used to help with swelling.
I hope this helps
