Hi,I am Dr. Carol Rogala (Emergency Medicine). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should I Be Concerned About The Fever In The Evenings?
My husband had a heart attack on July 27th and a stent was implanted in his LAD. For the past 3 evenings, he has run a low grade fever between 99.2 and 99.7. Is this something that I should call his cardiologist about? I called them on Friday but did not get a call back and he continues to have a fever in the evenings.
Hello. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
As far as it is known, stent placement has nothing to do with fever or any of the general or constitutional symptoms in the body. My opinion is that you do not have to worry about this coming from the stent. This may happen right after the procedure, but may be more related to the contrast agent or the cold a person might catch after standing not dressed for some hours. But, as I can see, it has already been almost four weeks from the procedure. It can come more from a simple infection or a viral state, with highest probability. It also may indicate an acute inflammation in the system. Therefore, if this fever does not go away for 48 more hours, I recommend that a simple complete blood count (CBC) accompanied with formula and erythrosedimentation rate, and biochemical panel (urea and creatinine, AST and ALT, and blood electrolytes) should be run. Furthermore, I suggest also running the proteins of acute phase of inlammation, such as C-reactive protein and fibrinogen.
I hope I was helpful with my answer. Best regards.
Dr. Meriton
