Should I Be Concerned Of Having A Sore Lump On My Wrist Which Turned Into Black And Blue?

I recently had an IV in my right wrist. This morning upon opening a door the vein began to swell and bulge. It was a fairly large lump, the lump has gone down a bit but is now black and blue and still sore. Is this something I should be concerned with?

Hi,

I can understand your concern for having a sore lump on my wrist which turned into black and blue.

It is due to the collection of blood at the IV site. The simple reason is due to pressure applied during opening of door and dislodgement of clot over the Intravenous injection site.

It is quite usually observed process and will be alright in next few days. If it increases in size then you must report to your treating doctor immedilatly.

Topical application of anticoagulant such as heparin cream will help in dissolving the clot formation. You can additionally take a pain killer such diclofenac or paracetamol.

Take care.
