Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello Madam, I know that you are anxious about the procedure and also the condition that you have described as polyp. This growth from the lining of the womb is called a polyp. Medically , a polyp is a an overgrowth of the lining and the glands which is regarded as benign or in other words not dangerous. Once such a benign polyp is removed and examined under the microscope thats all there is. However , sometimes a growth which appears as a polyp may also be cancerous and that is why we perform this procedure called D & C. An endometrial biopsy may also be done. It is very important to rule out endometrial cancer in any menopausal lady who presents with bleeding. Therefore your D & C specimen will be sent for histopathological examination which means that it is examined under the microscope by a pathologist to find out if it is just a polyp or if it is cancerous. As the D & C is the common procedure for investigation of uterine bleeding it is done throughout the world so you need not worry about the procedure. Post procedure your treatment depends on the histopathological report. There is effective treatment for all diseases in the 21 st century and an effective line of management. Should you require additional information on the D & C or any report please feel free to post your thoughts here. Best regards
