My 3 year old daughter has had a fever since Friday afternoon. It started at 2pm Friday and has been 101 to 103.4 even with motrin. She is also complaining of stomach pains. She has been eating and drinking. Should I take her to emergency room or wait till he appointment on wensday?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi!
I had gone through your query and understand your concern.
A high temperature is always a concerning finding in a 3 years old child.
This temperature may due to a viral infection causing gastroenteritis and in this case the fever can last for 2-3 days.
But since your kid's fever it is going on for two many days and it doesn't lower enough with Ibuprofen (Motrin) I can also think it might be a bacterial infection.

The major risk of high fever is Dehydration. So give plenty of fluids to your daughter and considering the fact that her fever doesn't respond to medication I suggest to take her to hospital.
The correct diagnosis is required to get the right treatment.
If the cause is a virus no specific treatment is needed, just rest, fluids, eating healthy and symptomatic treatment(treat fever).
If the cause is bacterial than an antibiotic is the treatment + fluids, rest.
The right cause can be found only in hospital and since she is to young child I don't suggest you to wait for doctor appointment.
Take her to hospital and meanwhile try to control her fever using Motrin.

Hope I was able to help you.
Wish a quick and complete recovery to your little girl.
