Should I Be Worried About The Low Oxygen Levels Of A Pneumonia Patient During Transfer To A Hospital?

Hi! My 5 year old niece has viral and bacterial pneumonia. She has been in the hospital since Thursday. Her oxygen levels are only reaching 90% with the help of an oxygen mask. They are transferring her to Northwestern Childrens Hospital this evening. Is this normal for her oxygen levels to be that low for this long and are there any long term effects? Thank you for any information you have.

hi.

noted history of low oxygen saturation. it is best if you bring your daughter to the nearest ER or for pediatric consultation. her low oxygen may be due to her existing infection but if the saturation is persistently low, she needs physical examination and clinical evaluation by a pediatrician. oxygen supplement thru a nasal cannula or a face mask may temporarily be given. chest xray, other diagnostics and management will be directed accordingly.

hope this helps.

good day!!
