Should I Be Worried Of Negative Test Result For Down Syndrome At 16 Weeks Of Pregnancy?
HI I am 24 years old I am 16 weeks pregnant with my first child. My Dr told me my blood test came back positive and negative for down syndrome. Should I be worried? what are the chances my baby boy will have down syndrome I thought this only happened in older women.
I was not able to understand the question clearly. You said your blood was positive and negative for Down's. However your heading says negative for Downs so I assume that you tested negative. This means that the baby does not have a risk of having downs syndrome [associated with mental retardation and many other abnormalities]. It does occur in older women more frequently but it may occur in any age [risk of having this is less at less age and increases with age].
It happens due to defects in chromosomes [the basic structures that make our genetic identity].
If your test is negative , you should be happy as this is a good sign. So congratulations and do not worry. Enjoy your pregnancy and wish you a safe delivery and mother hood.
