Should I Consult A Pulmonologist Inspite Of Having Severe Dry Cough?
Hi Doctor, I am 27 years old and suffering from a dry cough from the past 6 months. I have shown senior ENT specialist in Manipal Hospital (Bangalore) and Sitaram Hospital (Delhi) but medicines prescribed have not cured my cough. The doctors told that i have dry cough because of allergy. Request you to let me know if i should consult a Pulmonologist and what tests can i get done. Thanks
Hi, coughing for six months can be very disturbing. You have not mentioned the tests you've done already but I'll mention what I consider appropriate. When I investigate patients with chronic cough I start from the history which could prove to be the most important key to diagnosis. Clinical examination is very important as well (auscultation findings could suggest bronchial asthma for example). Important tests also include chest x-ray and SpO2. If the x-ray is normal then I would ask for a spirometry. That would be a good time to consult a pulmonologist.
