Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I m a 29 female type two diabetic . i was just biten by my neighbors dog. I didn t. provoke him he just latched onto my pants i tried to get him off and he snapped again the bite itself is only the size of a quarter but it did break the skin and it really hurts i don t wanna make a huge stink about it my neighbors are nice people i just don t know if i need to get treatment
Since there is history of unproved bite resulting in break in skin, it is advisable to start treatment immediately (specially if the vaccination status of the dog is not known) as follows: 1. Proper cleaning of the wound 2. Anti rabies vaccination as per schedule on day 0, 3, 7, 14 & 30. 3. Tetanus shot 0.5 cc intramuscularly. 4. Keep an watch on the dog & look for any symptoms of rabies.
Wish you good health. Take care.
