Should I Go To ER As I Took Zoloft Tablet By Mistake Instead Of Folic Acid Tablet?
Hi, my girlfriend who has a thyroid disease, granted hasn't took her meds in a few days, so she went to take her prescribed folic acid med and accidently took my Zoloft pill instead. Now she feels nautious and now we are wondering if she should go to an emergency room or let the pill wear off. The Zoloft by the way is 50mg
Zoloft and other medications in this category of drugs (SSRI) commonly cause nausea.
The half life of zoloft is 26 hours, this is the time it would take for the amount of medication in the system to decrease by half. It normally takes 3 to 4 half life for a medication to be eliminated completely but during this time the amount would be steadily decreasing.
This means ,at 3 to 4 half lives, it would take approximately 3 to 4 days for the medication to be completely eliminated, however because she took such a small dose ,she should start feeling better within 24 to 36 hours.
I hope this helps
