Should Medications Be Started In An Infant With Borderline Positive Mantoux Test?
My 3.5 year old kid has intermittent fever for past 15 days and cough and cold for past 1.5 months.she underwent montoux test for primary complex which measures about 10 mm.my peadia didn t start medication for primary complex and he told its in borderline only and gave colostrum powder and some vitamin tonic for her immunity.is it OK or we should start medication immediately?
No need to start anti tuberculosis drugs now. A sputum study of gastric lavage is required to confirm the diagnosis as Mantaux is not a confirmatory test for tuberculosis.
One should not start TB drugs without a confirmed diagnosis because the TB drugs has got major sode effects. You can continue other pills safely without any concerns.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family physician
