Should Medications Be Taken For High Triglycerides And Cholesterol Levels?
Hello my husband (age 30)had high cholesterol levels with the triglyceride of 360,HDL 34 one year back. since one year he is following a strict diet and exercise regime. His triglyceride at present in 245 and HDL 46 .Does he require to take medication?
Hi and welcome to HCM. Desirable levels of triglycerides are At this stage i advice that your hubby should go for medications, many good lipid lowering agents are available and consult a doctor for proper medications. With medications lipid levels will come to normal levels. High lipid levels for long duration is harmfull. Also Maintain diet and exercise (a 45 minute walk but should soon increase the intensity by adding jogging and other forms of cardio exercises to your routine) High in omega 3 fatty acids (consume fish), it helps increase the levels of the good (or HDL) cholesterol.. strictly and if lipid levels come down he can stop medications later. All the best
