Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should One Take Xarelto For AFib While Having Rectal Bleeding?
I am taking Xarelto and have been for over a year for afib. Today after doing my normal 1.5 to 2 mile walk, I went to the bathroom and saw fresh blood. At first I thought I might be getting a bladder infection, but have since discovered is it rectal blood. That occurred about 5 p.m., four hours ago. Question is, should I take today s pill or not. Afib happens occasionally, 1 to 3 times per month, not constantly.
Xarelto causes thinning of blood, and bleeding from anywhere is always an alarming symptom if someone is on Xarelto as this may indicate too much thinning of the blood. So you should urgently inform your doctor.
If there was significant bleeding I would suggest you should skip today's pill but let your doctor know urgently.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
General & Family Physician
