Should Plaster Be Left On Burn Or Should Wound Be Allowed To Dry?
I burnt my hand on the oven (10cm long). I have cleaned it with antiseptic and put a blister plaster over to keep it dry. It is now leaking yellow liquid. Its still very painful after 5 days. I didn t stick it under water because it actually didn t hurt that much. The area around it is slightly red but not swollen. The blister plaster says leave it on for up to 7 days. I cleaned the wound yesterday and redressed it. Should I just leave it with the plaster on or let it dry out. It looked quite nasty when I cleaned it although clean.
The presence of yellow soak-age indicates underlying infection. You have to change dressing to avoid infection and bacterial colonizing. You can also apply collagen dressing for better wound healing and pain relief.
