Should The Ragi Porridge Be Continued In A 5 Month Old Even If Not Digested Properly?
Hi, my daughter is 5.5 months old and weighs 6.75 kg (birth weight 3.1kg)...We started giving her ragi porridge (sprouted, roasted ground ragi boiled n mixed with breast milk) 2 weeks ago, but we see ragi powder coming out as such in her stool....Should we continue giving ragi? Is er weight okay? Does giving more solid interfere with breast milk intake/weight gain now?
Hello, I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
It is not advisable to give any foods till completion of her 6 months. Exclusive breast feeding is enough for first 6 months for both nutrients and immunity. Because Breast milk will give them extra protection against infection, and it will continue to protect them for as long as you carry on.
It is usual that infant pass the stool as food colored. This will change when she gets older and is able to digest foods more efficiently. You should start her food with mashed or soft cooked fruit and vegetables like potato, yam, sweet potato, carrot, apple or pear, all cooled before eating Or soft fruit like peach, melon, soft ripe banana foods or mashed Or baby rice or baby cereal mixed with your baby’s usual milk. Continue breast milk. You can continue the food that you are giving now after 6 months of her birth.
Hope this helps. Please write back for further queries. Wishing you good health.
