Should The Half Cut Nail Be Removed Completely For Its Brittleness?

Hi,

About a year ago a sizeable amount of hot glue gun fell on my thumbnail and the nail came off halfway in a horizontal way, the bottom part closer to the nail bed is what came off. Now it tries to grow back, but it's all bumby and, brittle, paper thin. It gets caught up in stuff and it tears right off again. About halfway down my nail to the top of the nail it is the old nail strong and it actually indents in the matrix bed of the nail and it gives a lot of pressure. I don`t think a new nail could grow and push this permanent nail out as it grows. Just wondering if i should just have the nail completely removed?
