Should The Prolapsed Uterus Be Removed Before The Hysterectomy?
I just scheduled my hysterectomy for May 27 and I want to find out all the info I can before then. I have a mild prolapse and went in to see a Urologist to find out about a bladder sling and he said that I nee my uterus removed because it is prolaped too. Should I try a pessary first?
You may try a pessary if you want. Unfortunately, if the pessary is removed the prolapse recurs. Pessaries have their own problems. They may cause infection and may not always correct all the defects.
A hysterectomy is a much better option if child bearing is not desired. After removing the uterus the pressure on the ligaments decreases so they do not have to bear much weight. Also it is possible to repair all the defects. Other options are uterine sling surgeries.
So the best option can be suggested after identifying the degree and site of defect. So your discuss this with your treating surgeon and then decide. Hope this satisfies your query.
