Should We Be Concerned About Periodic Itching In The Area Of Pacemaker And Unusual Tiredness?
My 90 yr. old mother has had a pacemaker for about 10 years. Her 6mth. check ups are always good. Lately she has been experiencing periodic itching in the area of the pace maker. She has an app. next week but I want to know if we should be concerned or is it ok to wait till next week. Also she has been more tired than usual lately.thank you. Linda Peters
Hi and thanks for the query, It is reasonable to be having some fears, especially if this is of recent occurrence. It is possible for this to be originating from a lesion at the level of the nerves innervating the area, maybe during the placement of the pacemaker. It is however still necessary to bet a complete local and general examination to exclude other possible causes. Unusual tiredness deserves, especially a cardiac review. A blood count to check blood hemoglobin levels to exclude anemia is important. the opinion of your doctor could be very useful. But no reason to panic this much at this point in time. Kind regards
