Should We Suspect Leukemia If WBCs And Neutrophil Are Elevated In A Patient Suffering From Distal Radial Fracture?
I m a nursing student and my primary pt has a humeral and distal radial fracture. His wbcs are elevated (13.1), neutrophil % is elevated (75.2) and lymphocytes are low (12.8). He doesnt have a hx of leukemia which I ve read is a possibility and there was nothing in his chart about a viral infection. Can a fracture cause these lab values or is there a possibility of an underlying disease?
i dont understand why you are thinking about leukemia when there is just marginal rise in counts and peripheral smear normal. fracture itself can cause rise in counts as stress response. better not too think too much and not to think of bad disease when there is no evidence of disease
