Shoulder Ultrasound Done. Thick Tear In Middle Tendon Found. What Does Report Mean? Surgery Required?
i had an ultrasound on my shoulder it concludes full thickness tear at the middle third supraspinatus tendon.thickened sub acromio-sub deltoid bursa with increased blood flow and bursal bunching at 40 arm abduction. increased blood flow at the rotator interval suggestive of capsulitis. what does all this mean does it require surgery or will it heal with physio.thankyou
Hello.Ultrasound is not the most sensitive test to detect shoulder pathologies. It is necessary to make a MRI of the shoulder to get a right diagnosis. After results of MRI treatment is decided. If the tendon is completely torn ,surgery is necessary (although is surgery with minimal incision and hospitalization). If surgery is not necessary, there are conservative treatments such as physiotherapy or local infiltration but if these treatments were not effective surgery would also be required. I wish you good health. (If the answer has helped you, please indicate this)
