Shouldn't The Pain Be Gone At Five Weeks After Total Abdominal Hysterectomy?
I had a total adominal hysterectomy five weeks ago and am having quite strong pain and tightness in the surgical area. Yesterday was my first day to skip any pain meds but had to take them twice today. Shouldn't the pain be gone at five weeks post-op?
The duration for the pain to disappear after surgery is variable. Some may not feel any pain after a week while some may have it for months. It depends upon the threshold for pain, type of surgery, difficulty level, indication for surgery and presence of infection.
If the pain is very severe, see a doctor to rule out infection. Associated symptoms like fever, chills indicate infection, so check to see if you have them. Sometimes adhesions develop after surgery causing the internal organs to stick to each other. These also produce pain and is difficult to control. Usually there is complete pain relief 3 months after surgery.
So just see your doctor once to ensure that things are fine. I hope this was helpful. Thanks for using HCM. Have a good day. Dr Nilajkumar Bagde Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology
