Single Thump Felt On Left Side Of Chest, Heart Raced. On Levothyroxine. Was Thump A Palpitation?
Twice this month I have felt a single thump in the left side if my chest. No other symptoms with it. The second time it happened, I was lying in bed and felt the thump then my heart raced for maybe 3 seconds. Once again, no other symptoms. I am on levothyroxine but just had my levels checked and they were fine. What i wana know is this single thump considered a palpitation? Could this be related to pms??? Maybe the extra hormones? Thanks.
Hi, Thanks for using Healthcaremagic, I have gone through your available details, You are hypothyroid and taking replacement therapy and your thyroid functions are normal with the treatment.
Your feeling of thump in left side of chest is most likely due to heart extra beats which can come occasionally in normal individuals but if it is frequent then it must be examined and investigated to know exact extent and cause.
A simple ECG may be done to see and if required Holter monitoring for 24 hours may be performed to find exact type of arrhythmia and it's relation with symptoms.
In the meantime avoid excessive tea or coffee, completely avoid tobacco products if you use and also do not use alcohol.
Hope this helps. Take care. Good Luck. Dr.Akhilesh Dubey M.D
