Sinus Culture Has Yielded Enterobacter Cloacae. Will Sulfa Work As Good As Levoquin?
I am a retired microbiologist (academics), and I just got a call from my doctor (ENT) that my recent sinus culture yielded Enterobacter cloacae . His first drug of choice was Levoquin, which I cannot take, second was a sulfa. Do you think the sulfa will work just as well? It was the doctor s second choice.....second question How in the world did this microbe get into my sinuses.?

Carbapenems are the most reliable beta-lactam drugs for the treatment of severe Enterobacter infections; fourth-generation cephalosporins stands second choice and with sulfa there are more chances of resistance, enterobacter could found in many cultures in sinuses but amongst them cloacae are rarest one. thanking you
