Sinus Infection, Prescribed Augmentin, Not Very Effective. Can Stop Augmentin And Start Bactrim?

I have a sinus infection. A week ago today I went to the urgent care for treatment and was prescribed Augmenting 1000-62.5 2x daily x 10 days. I had called my family dr. The same day but did not hear back, thus my visit to the urgent care. When I picked up the Rx for Augmentin I found that my family dr. Had called in Bactrim 800-60mg 2 x daily x 10
Days. I started the Augmentin and now 6 days on it and not really better. My question is would it be harmful to stop the Augmentin since it is not working and start the Bactrim?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
Augmentin has a better efficacy and a wider spectrum of action for the sinus infections. If the infection is persistent then a swab culture is advisable. Do not self medicate.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
