Six Year Old With Racing Heart And Frequent Vomiting.

Six year old with racing heart and frequent vomiting. Please help. What could this be? My daughter is six years old and has been suffering form ferquest vomiting for the last 3 years. She has had an upper GI done with normal results and her pediatrician has diagnosed her with GERD and given her prilosec. Her symtoms have not improved and are actually getting worse. My main concern is not the vomiting but her racing heart that comes along with it. You can visibly see her heart pounding in her chest and she has told me that her heart bleaping comes before the nausea leading me to believe that it is the cause of her nausea. Other symtoms include weakness in her arms and legs and she tells me that her legs hurt as well. She may be confusing weakness for pain, I m not sure. The vomiting/racing heart typically occurs first thing in the morning but has lately been lasting all day long. The most recent incident lasted with vomiting for 2 days and by the 3rd day she was not vomiting but her heat was racing still and she was queasy. Please help. I dont think this is GERD.

There are far too many variables here to even begin. You really need to take your daughter back in to the doctor for a visit. Does she vomit daily, or just a time or two a week? An EKG & Echocardiogram would be helpful to determine if there is any structural abnormalities with the heart. Excessive acid production can, and often will, cause some cardiac irritation, but would be UNLIKELY to cause weakness in the extremities unless the vomiting is so significant and frequent that her electrolytes have gone out of balance. A blood chemistry panel will show this. I agree, this DOES sound like a heart issue, and not JUST a GERD thing. Get her in soon, and have them test her heart. Best wishes.
