Small Bald Spot On Top Of Head For 6 Yr Old, Feels Itchy. Why This Sudden Occurance ?
Just noticed a small bald spot on top of my 6 year old daughters head. it looks like their might have been a scab thier and she informed me her head felt itchy. It just kind of took me back seeing it. it is right in the middle of the top of her head as her hair is usually pulled back I am not quite sure how long its been there. Will be making a doctors appointment in the morning just wondering if their is any explaination for this sudden occurance. thanks, AAAAA
The presence of a bald spot on top of the head along with itchind and scab indicates a fungal infection of the scalp. Otehr causes of hair loss are psoriasis, eczema etc however itching is not present in these cases.
Fungal infection of scalp is common and called Tinea capitis. It is caused due to poor hygiene, prolonged wet skin and minor injury on the scapl.
It leads to temporary loss of hair which regrow once the infection is treated.
However, please visit your GP/ dermatologist.
The infection needs to be confirmed by skin scraping and/ or hair shaft examination.
Treatment is by topical application of anti-fungal cream.
Thanks and take care
