Hi,
There are 2 types of lactose intolerance - one isnrimary where you would have had problems since birth. The other is due to diarrhea itself damaging the lining of intestine. This is temporary ad will improve in 2-3 weeks.*Give Soya formula lactose free milk and then repeat the stool test and if negative, slowly reintroduce the normal milk and challenge and see..No need to worry Dr Uma

Hi,
Thank you for your query,
Your child seems to have gastroenteritis due to a virus.
Usually in gastroenteritis, due to loss of intestinal villae, there may be deficiency of lactase enzyme which digests lactose that is present in normal milk.
So this lead to indigestion of lactose leading to prolonged diarrhea.
If there is lactose intolerance, lactose free milk to be given for some days till the villae regenerates.
But consult your Pediatrician for feeding advise.
Hope I have answered your query.

Hi welcome to Health care magic forum. Lactose intolarance is a term used to signify that there is allergy to the intestine to the lactose normally present in the milk, what ever the sourse may be . mothers milk, animal milk, and formula milk, all contains lactose.
Some companies manufacture milk powders with out lactose, made from soya milk, which doesn't contain lactose, so if given to child he can tolerate it and there wont be any allergy and loose motions.
As it is a veining period you can slowly switch him to semisolid foods, like cerelac, overboiled rice, boiled potato, apple etc besides xero lactose milk.
Dont worry it is not a continuous process , after some time there will be complete cure for it, automatically. In the meanwhile he has to use some medicines like lactic acid bacilli, and enzymes for comfertable life with out zero lactose milk.
Wishing the baby a quick relief and thanks for calling.
