Small Child Getting Last Molars, Having Nasal Discharge, Crusty Eyes. Symptoms Related To Teething?

My son is almost 2 and seems to be getting his last molars in the back. He started getting a runny nose and eyes about the same time. And has been having crust on his eyes in the morning. Could this be related to teething? Is this something I should bring him in for? His eyes don t appear to be red or anything but he s been rubbing them. Thank you!

Thanks for your query.
The boy has got a viral cold a very common condition.
His eye problem & runny nose are unrelated to teething.
Just clean his eyes with boiled clean water & cotton swab several times a day.
For toothache can use panadol in appropriate doses.
Can wait for 2-3 days before seeing GP if not better.
Regards.

Pediatrician Dr. E Venkata Ramana's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

His runny nose and eyes with crust in eyes caused by conjunctivitis of the eyes and a common cold caused by a virus most probably.

Some times conjunctivitis of eyes leads to excessive water discharge leads to runny nose as the water from the eyes are drained into the nose through the lacrymal system of drainage.

It is not related to his teething.

Teething will cause gums irritation and not associated with loose stools or cold and conjunctivitis as many people think.

For his symptoms you can give an oral antihistamine like cetirizine in prescribed dosage and for eyes if there is any secondary bacterial infection, antibiotic eye drops can be given.

Therefore I advise you to consult your doctor for the examination and for the prescription of medication.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
