Wisdom Tooth Not Errupting Fully, Cannot Be Extracted Since Pregnant, On Medicines, Pain Not Subsiding. What To Do?

Hi, m having wisdom tooth pain, as it s not erupting fully and my dentist says it will never. Ideally it needs to be extracted, but as I am 30 weeks pregnant, I cannot afford to do that. So, he suggested me with novamox 500 3 tablets a day for 3 days to reduce the pain. But even after 3 days the pain remains the same. What m I supposed to do now?

hello and welcome to HCM forum Khushbu,
according to the dental and medical history provided by you, i would like to inform you that an antibiotic alone won't help, anti-inflammatory and pain killer is also required, but for now, as your tooth is impacted ,therefore cannot be removed until a few more months.
i recommend you to perform warm saline rinses( 3-4 times/day),
also use an antibacterial mouth wash( betadine only) twice/day.
these two measures will bring you relief from pain.
kindly visit your dentist soon so that he/she can prescribe you an anti-inflammatory medication as well ,
i hope i answered your query,
i wish you good health,
take care.

Hi,
Novamox is an antibiotic and even if it reduces the infection it may not reduce the pain until an anti inflamatory/painkiller drug is not taken. As you are pregnant, your dentist can not extract the wisdom tooth for sometime. You can do warm saline gargles 3-4 times/day to ease the pain but i would recommend you to visit your dentist for prescription of painkillers for the same.

hello and welcome to hcm,
as you are pregnant and in 1st trimester, so the extraction procedure cannot be done.
if the wisdom tooth is hurting you by rubbing on opposite arch, so better ask him to grid the visible cusps.
do warm saline gargles twice with inculcation of betadine gargles as well.
you can apply mucopain in the affected area for temperory relief when it pains a lot.
painkiller is very much required as antibiotic is for infection, not pain.
thanks

Hi Khushbu,
I read your problem,as you are 30 weeks pregnant so i will not suggest you to go for extraction, and novamox is an antibiotic which will reduce the infection not the pain so for pain you can take paracetamol,do warm saline gargle,or you can do betadine gargle too (2-3 times a day).
nothing to get worried.
take care.

Hallo madam
welcome to Health care magic
yes you canot go for extraction during pregnancy.
only antibiotics will not be helpful it should be combined with an analgesic for relief. Warm salt water gargles 3-4 times a day will be helpful.
a slight subgingival scaling below the pericoronal flap/gum covering with atraumatic procedure could be vrey helpful in removing the debris.
Take a consent from your gynaec before this procedure
take care.

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

In your present situation i would suggest you to meet your gynecologist and get suggestions for suitable pain killers, which can be taken during pregnancy.

Meanwhile, visit your dentist and get the erupting wisdom teeth examined.

saline irrigation of the operculum helps a lot.

If possible you can get operculectomy done for the time being. This will give you immediate relief.

As you have already taken antibiotics, it is not good to repeat, it at this stage.

Regular rinsing with antiseptic solution helps a lot. Also do warm saline rinses after each meal.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Take care.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM forum...
As its been 30 weeks pregnancy so extraction has to postpone till delivery.
Alongwith medicine you can consult dentist for irrigation under the flap with betadine and normal saline.
After irrigation ask him to place a thin pellet of cotton soaked in local anaesthetic solution under the flap.
Maintain oral hygiene and use BETADINE mouthwash, this will give to symptomatic relief for few months.
Take care

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

Since the normal eruption of wisdom tooth is not possible, flap overlying tooth has to be incised and removed to relieve pain as well as infection underlying.

Gargle frequently with warm saline.

The inflammed area has to be irrigated with betadine and saline solution.

Take complete course of medicines prescribed.

Rinse your mouth after every meals.

Take care.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

As you are pregnant your wisdom tooth cannot be extracted right now.
You should be extremely careful while taking the medications as some medications can cross the placental barrier and reach the feotus.
I would suggest you to consult your OBGYN before taking the medications.

You can savely take novamox and tab parcetomol for 3-5 days.
At home take lukewarm saline rinses and antiseptic mouthwash rinses.
Avoid eating from that side and maintain a good oral hygiene.

Hope this helps out.

Regards...
