Small Child Having Cough And Cold. Given Ambrolite-s, Gripe Water. Treatment For Symptoms?

Hello Doctor! My son is running cold & cough , so my doctor prescribed Ambrolite-S. We gave him a dose of 5 ml y day. At around 12 midnight, he woke up & cried for about 30 min. We didn t give him the dose today, but even then he woke up at around the same time & cried hard. We gave him some warm water & a tablespoon of gripe water. After about 30 min, he went back to sleep. What could be causing this problem?

You dint mention the age of your child as some times cause of crying is known from the age. For cough the prescribed syrup is enough and you can give 8th hourly for 5 to 7 days. For cold you can use antihistamine syrup after consulting your doctor.

Hello
You have not mentioned your child's age. Sudden waking up and crying in a child with cold could be due to blocked nose due to which he gets a choking sensation and wakes up crying. Other cause could be ear ache due to ear infection which is quite common in young infants having cold. At times Ambrolite- S may lead to sleep disturbances in young children. Try giving him steam inhalations and some decongestant nasal drops if the nose is blocked.
If the problem is persisting, preferably consult a child specialist in your town.
