Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Small Child Having Nasal Discharge, Persistent Cough, Nose Bleeds. Cure For Symptoms?
HI, My daughter is 3yrs and 8 months old- she has had a slight runny nose and a persistant cough for a few days (but had a cough a few weeks back too that subsided) - although appears to be quite well aside from this - last night she was awake through the night with the coughing and this morning she has had a small nose bleed
There is nothing unusual for 3 years+8 months-old child to develop these symptoms. Children get affected by viral infections, called upper respiratory infections. They are mostly self-limiting. (e.g. common cold). No special treatment is required for these situations.
Is the problem appearing more often than once in 2 to 3 months’ time? If it is a frequent problem then you have to investigate the reason. I am sure your pediatrician will be helpful in this regard.
Nose bleed is something that you have to be careful about. Common reason for children with nose bleed is nose picking. If she bleeds from her nose for no such reason, please get her to an expert in ear, nose and throat disorders. In case of children, a small forgotten foreign body (a piece of toy or a peanut or a bead) may cause the bleed.
Hope the little angel gets well and chirpy soon. Thanks a ton for using healthcaremagic.com
