Small Child Having Rashes On Buttocks, Stains On Underwear That Look Like Fecal Matter. Causes?

My 7 year old son has a rash on his buttocks . It looks like small red pimples only in that area. We also noticed stains in his underwear that looked like dryed fecal matter. We gave him a shower to clean the area but several hours later noticed the same stains in his underwear but this time the discharge was more clear.
