Small Child, Infrequent Urination, Sleeping And Urinating, Red Irritated Spot On Urethra. Causes?
My son(a toddler) has been having trouble peeing it seems. He hardly goes at all, only seems to pee when he is actually sleeping. My husband noticed tonight that he had what seemed to be a reddish spot inside the urethra , which looked as though it had either been bleeding or was agitated. Do you know what might be wrong?
Hello there,
Children frequently develop a condition called meatal stenosis. Usually after habitually scratching the urethral opening, there is inflammation and narrowing of the urethral tip. This might explain the "reddish spot". An attempt to void urine naturally leads to pain so the child refrains from going to the loo. So it is important to avoid any further scratching and keep the hands clean. After consultation with a Urologist, appropriate antibiotics can be initiated. If however the problem persists, an intervention might be needed.
Take care.
