Small Child, Less Weight, Cough, Congestion, Breast Fed, Eats Only Rice. Tips To Gain Weight?
Hi Doctor, My 18 months old daughter s weight is just 7.5kg. when she was 6 months old she was very much fond to eat. when she was abt to 8 months she has got cough congesion and has got hospitalized, since then she started to refuse food. now its very tough to feed her, she hardly take 3 meals a day. in last 7-8 months she has gained only 700gm weight. she is breast feed. she hasnt any intrest on vegetable or fruit. she eat only rice
Hi,
thank you for your query.
Your child is a classic case of improper weaning. Transition from breast milk to solids of various kinds were not done properly. She is definitely underweight and should be atleast 10 kg by now. It will be tedious process from now on but i am sure you can do it. you have to start with cereals first, then add vegetables and fruits and the finally add non veg items to her diet.Ideally she should be fed 5 times a day with solid food.If you are unable to do so break her diet into 10 small meals every 2 hrs. Add high calorie food items in her diet like cheese, chocolate, almonds, molten icecream. Change her diet everyday and make the food tasty. Deworm her once.I hope she will recover soon.Get back to me if you need help.Bye.
