Small Child, Severe Cough And Cold, Swollen Gums, High Fever, Blood In Mucus. Cause Of Worry?
Hi Doc, My son is 11 months old and currently having very bad cold and cough . he also has swollon gums. He has had very hig fever but now its fine. Since yesterday I m noticing that when he sneezes there is bit of blood in the mucus . Is it something to worry about? He vomits everything if he starts to cough. He is also suffering with some gastric and acid problem coz of Teething . We have given him some baby gaviscon. Please guide us. Thanks

As your child is having cold and cough you can give oral antihistamines, nasal drops and cough syrup. The blood in mucus after sneeze is due to bleeding from little plexus of nostrils and if there is no active bleeding nothing to worry. If there is a bleeding from nostril you can gently press only one nostril at time till the bleed stops. If the bleeding is recurrent consult your Pediatrician for evaluation.

your son is suffering from respiratort tract infection, in this infection skin of throat inflammed and becomes thin so when we cough hard it get easily bleed, so do not worry about blood in mucus.
you can use cefixime syrup 3.5 ml twice daily with ambrodil plus salbutamol combination 2.5 ml thrice daily.
if fever is present use paracetamol plus ibupfren combination 3.5 ml 4 hrly.
