Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Small Child, Teething, Frequent Burping And Farting, Stomach Bloating. Cause Of Concern?
My 2.5 year old has been teething (back molars) for 3 days and is whingey but since yesterday, in addition he has been burping lots (and farting occasionally, fairly smelly), complaining of a sore tummy (as well as sore teeth) and his tummy feels relatively hard. He is off his normal food but happy with milk and bread and butter. Do I need to worry or will this pass?
Children do become a bit cranky when they are cutting their teeth which explains your son's whining. The milk and bread and butter are making him constipated which is giving rise to the burps and "sore" tummy. I suggest that you encourage him to have a normal diet which is going to help him have normal bowel movements and reduce his burps and even flatus. The soreness of the gums will gradually pass and need not get worried about it.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Hi
Your child might be having some gastritis or early signs of gastroenteritis. Look for any vomitings or loose stools. You can give antacid syrups like gelucil or its equivalents to decrease bloating, abdominal pain and to decrease farting.
If there are any vomitings or loose stools you can give oral rehydrating solutions to prevent dehydration and consult your Pediatrician for further management.
