Small Gash On Nipple With Green, White Puss Oozing Due To Breastfeeding. Remedy For Quick Healing?

Hi, I am breastfeeding but one of my nipples has a small gash on it (I presume from where my baby bit me previously) and is oozing puss, sometimes white, sometimes green, it's not a lot, I try to squeeze it out before I feed my little one. What's the best thing to do to get it to heal quickly? I currently feed 3 times a day.

Hi and thanks for the query,

The first thing is you stop giving milk to the child from that particular breast. Thsi should probably be a bacterial infection. Common germs responsible for this are of the Staphyloccocus family. Common antibiotics like Penicilline M family are very useful. Consult your doctor for appropriate prescription. Proper placing of the child on the breast and regular breastfeeding reduces milk accumulatation and risk of infection.

I suggest you consult your primary care physician,

Bain LE, MD.
