Small Red Dots On Legs. Suspect Petechiae. How To Diagnose Petechiae Whether It Is Caused By Low Platelet Or With Normal Blood Coagulation?

I have just recently noticed very small red dots all up and down my legs, I have done some research and am still not sure what it is but I think it might be petechiae. So my question is How do you know if you have petechiae if so how would you know if it is caused by low platelet or problems with normal blood coagulation?

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

small red dots 1to 3 mm in size are called petechiae. This can be caused due to excessive pressure applied to the vessels.Rupture of minor blood vessels causes them to appear.

This generally occurs when platelet function is inhibited,or low platelet count.

Now with the given history it cant be confirmed as petechiae,it can also be interpreted as vasculitis, some malignancies also might cause this.

Therefore it is advised to visit your dermatologist for clinical evaluation.proper investigation can confirm your finding.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Take care.

Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. However petechiae is not a disease, it is a symptom of a disease. So you may be having petechiae due to some other cause. I hope you visit with a specialist who can throw light into what is causing you to have these problems. An internal medicine doctor should be your first starting point. I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day!
