Smaller Left Kidney, Lost Pulse In Right Kidney Due To Diagnosis Of Takayasu Arteritis. On Prednisone. Any Medication To Stop Prednisone?
Hello Sir , My self is Mitesh Shah . Age 40. I was diagnosed with Takayasu Artritis before 10 Years, Due to this my left kidney is smaller in size and right hand has lost pulse. Otherwise i am in stable condition, As per last report my ESR was 21 and Hb was 12.7 , Creatinine was 1.1 and other parameters are normal. I am on 10mg Prednisone (Omnacortil) daily since last 10 years. Also taking Calcium Supplement Shellcal 500mg daily. Is there any medication to stop Prednisone or any other new development in Takayasu ? I would like to know your expert advice.
Under this particular circumstance, the decision to stop prednisolone depends on the fact whether it is not effective or if it produces lots of side effects. In case it is effective, there is really no need stopping prednisolone. Your condition if responds well to prednisolone, there is no need to stop. It is easier to taper and stop than other steroids.
I suggest you discuss options with your treating physician.
Thanks and kind regards,
Bain LE, MD.
