Smoker. Sore Throat, Difficulty In Swallowing, Shortness Of Breath, Burning Feeling In Back Of Mouth, Swollen Glands. Detected Possible Laryngitis. Advice

Hi there,

I've had a sore throat for approximately 5 weeks now. it's uncomfortable to swallow and at times I feel like I have a shortness in breath. My neck seems to be tense and the pain and tense feeling is right underneath my adams apple. For the past week it also feels like the back of my mouth has a bit of a burning sensation.
It also feels like my glands are swollen and sometimes when I press on them they hurt, but not all the time.

I was referred to an ENT specialist from my doctor (who believes it's laryngitis) but I won't get to see one for another week. I'm a little worried at this point. I do smoke approximately 1 pack every days.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hello and welcome to HCM,

You need to undergo a complete evaluation of your throat and upper GI to get a complete final picture in the background of your long duration of symptoms and also since you smoke.

Rest assured an endoscopic evaluation will definitely give you a diagnosis that you seek

Meanwhile do the following:
1. Take only warm food and fluids and nothing cold, spicy or oily
2. Stop smoking gradually as immediate cessation is not possible and may bring withdrawal symptoms
3. Take regular diet and proper time and add lots of salads and green leafy vegetables in the diet

hope this helps
