Smoking Addiction, Blood Streaks In Cough, Chest Pain. Lung Cancer?

I used to smoke 10-12 cigarettes daily for last three years although I had started it from twenties. I am now 44 years of age. Recently, I have observed blood stain once in the cough in morning. I followed up it, but didn t see it after it. Also feeling some pain in both the chest . What will be the cause of it? Can it be a cancer in lungs?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for choosing HCM,
Blood in sputum in a chronic smoker is of concern.
Its not necessarily due to cancer, it may be due to chronic dry cough and hence injury to the wall of wind tube.
Just get yourself examined by a physician and some tests done to rule out chances of cancer because it also causes blood in sputum.
Please don't neglect.
Thank you

General & Family Physician Dr. Pavan Kumar Gupta's  Response
Hello
It can be cancer lungs but otherwise there can be many non serious and moderately serious reasons for the blood in cough.
Instead of living in fear and mental agony, you must consult a chest specialist and get the required investigations like CBC,sputum examination,x-ray chest and possible CT chest.
Thanks
