Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
So I am trying to see if anyone has good examples of allergic reaction to dissolvable stitches? I had a posterior neck fusion two years ago, then had to have the hardware removed 5 months ago. Then about 5 weeks ago I had to undergo another posterior surgery to sew my trapezius muscle back together as it was separated 6 inches away from the bone, most likely from all the cutting through the muscle during previous 2 surgeries. Anyway on first two surgeries I had severe pain after 6-8 weeks due to the dissolvable stitches trying to surface and emerge out of the skin which lasted about 3-4 months after each surgery. And now once again I am experiencing severe pain from what feels like a volcano under my incision trying to erupt. I specifically mentioned to my surgeon that the previous surgeries were pure hell during recovery because of the dissolvable stitches and to please use non allergenic stitches, but I guess no one really believes me! This is frustrating. Is there any type of actual non allergenic stitch I can reference to in the future if I have to undergo another surgery?
