Son Is Having Cough For Almost 6 Days. Can I Give Him Lorrinase ?
my son is having cough for almost 6 days now doctor had prescribed cough syrup Excylin however he said if the cough continues for more than 3 days start giving him antibiotic i don t prefer antibiotics can i give him lorrinase
Does your child have any cold/ running nose/ fever?
The above drugs you have mentioned is to reduce the nasal congestion/ running nose/ allergy if any. If it is more than six days better get him checked up with an ENT specialist as well as child specialist, because there might be enlarged tonsils/ adenoids/ chest infection which is responsible for chronic cough. Any more doubts you are welcome.
If the cough is dry it could be considered due to Upper respiratory tract infection caused by viral infection or allergy , both of which can be combated by either of the medicine you mentioned along with gargling a antiseptic solution to prevent any secondary bacterial infection which is expected in above conditions, as both make throat mucosa sensitive and less resistant to infections.
If the cough is wet , Production of the sputum or gurgling sound during cough then i would consider there is a need for getting examined by a pediatrician and go for necessary antibiotics.Such kind of presentations are more when there is lower respiratory tract infection which is commonly due to bacterial infection of the lung tissue.Antibiotics ( antibacterials ) are the best and only resort there.
