Sore Knees, Paining. Having Fibromyalgia. Undergone Bilateral Tkr. Suggestions To Alleviate Pain?
I had bilateral TKR on November 8, 2011. PT went well and I was making good progress until five months later when both knees became increasingly sore. The pain has continued and is the worst at night when my knees burn and ache. I wake frequently in severe pain. I take two hydrocodone tablets 500/5 with breakfast and the pain is less with activity. I believe my pain is a complication of fibromyalgia. Is there anything that can be done to alleviate my pain? I have seen five doctors with no suggestions at all. They don't seem to understand what I am talking about. Thanks, Phyllis (age 77)
Thank you Phyllis for posting on HCM. Fibromyalgia pain is generalised muscular type pain with specific trigger points which are more sore all over the body. Pain which wakes you up at night, is aching & burning on knees is most likely to be related to local causes related to knee itself also the fact that rest relieves pain supports it. I feel first thing that needs doing is knee XR to check position, once that is OK your analgesia needs reviewing - nerve pain relieving medications like amitriptyline, gabapentin etc can be ideal. Hope this helps
