Sore Lump Inside Mouth, Sore Jaw. Abnormal Cervical Test Result. Are These Related?

Hello. I woke up this morning with a sore lump inside my mouth it is located on the left side just above my jawline on the gumline and it is about a cm big. I noticed it because my jaw is also quite sore just under the bump. Any idea what it could be ? I am a female 18 years old. 3months post partum if that could have anything to do with this... As well as that I have had an abnormal cervical cell test result could that have a connection to this bump so close to my cervical lymph nodes? Please reply!!

Hello and welcome to Health care magic,

I am Dr Sriram Nathan an ENT surgeon and i will try to help you out with your problem.

The lump which you have described can be any of the many benign and normal structures which are present in the oral cavity and the throat. Since you are post partum it may also be due to reflex or just vitamin or iron deficiency.

In any case these swellings may become or increased in size in any infection or irritation so you have nothing to worry about.

If you have already taken a course of tablets for infections I would suggest you to take a course of anti reflux tablet such as pantoprazole and then see the change. If you have not taken an antibiotic then you may try amox-clav along with a multivitamin like zincovit in consultation with your doctor.

If the lump persists for more than a two weeks then you may take an upper GI endoscopy and get back to me with the reports

Your abnormal cervical cell test has no connection with the present condition in the throat so do not worry. You may consult with a gynaecologist for the same.

take care and get well soon

regards

Dr Sriram Nathan
