Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently discovered after suffering for a very long time with sore muscles and limping because of the thightness in the hip area, taking maggnesium suppplement (calcium citrate) that the muscle has started to relax.I am walking without a limp! Also what I thought was arthritis in my big toe, by taking this supplement the pain is gone for hours. Is this possible? How much magnesium should I take per day. When I take this supplement I don't need any pain medication ie ibuprofin. I am not on anyother meds. I am 62 years old.
I personally do not think that magnesium deficiency is causing the symptoms you have mentioned. There is no evidence that magnesium supplement treats arthritis or causes muscle to relax. I am not sure but It may be a coincidence that your symptoms got improved with this
There are various other causes for your symptoms. Physical examination is mandatory to assess this since there are variety of other causes that needs to be ruled out.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have have any clarifications.
