I've had a tonsillectomy when a child. Im now 34. Never had any bad throat problems as an adult. For the last 2 months I've had a terribly sore throat, looks red & white at the back of my mouth. Swollen glands in neck. Stiffness in neck. Pain in ears. Always gets worse towards the end of the day to the point where swallowing is painful Plus I feel more tired & lethargic with no energy for no reason. My doctor has said its just a sore throat & it'll pass. But months on ... What do you think?

Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Nithya's Response
when there is throat pain as per your age group is considered,it points towards two important rather common conditions one being sore throat(throat infection) the other being tonsilitis.since you had already undergone tonsillectomy, the problem is most likely sore throat which is not responding to the antibiotics you been prescribed.chronic throat infection often caused by virulent micro organisms.hence i advice you to take a throat swab for culture and sensitivity.this will give the culprit's name (bacteria) along with the antibiotics you are supposed to take to get rid of this problem.in the mean time dissolve a dispirin tablet in a cup of hot water and goggle it to get a temporary relief.hope you get well soon.
